Mold in Rental House Creates Concern

AUSTELL, GA --  When the 'For Rent' sign went up at 2912 Pavia Circle in Austell, neighbors were concerned.

"I don't think they really went in and did the strip out," Robert Ledbetter told the Center for Investigative Action.

Many houses on the street remain gutted and neighbors are concerned that the house that is now up for rent may not be fit to live in. That's why we called the landlord, Kathy Edgerly, to take a look. She told us to go on in; the door was unlocked. We only told her our first name; she never asked for any more information about us.

Construction Continues on I-20 West This Weekend

ATLANTA -- GDOT officials said they plan to continue the emergency project to replace failing bridge joints on two I-20 bridges west of Atlanta, with work concentrating this weekend on the Sweetwater Creek bridge.

The $5.1 million project includes replacement of the bridge joints and deck rehabilitation on that bridge as well as the bridge over the Chattahoochee River. The project work will happen in the overnight hours and on weekends, but the contractor is required by GDOT to keep at least two lanes open at all times.

"We expect some delays around the project area," said GDOT Area Engineer Michael Hill.

Work will continue on the project thorugh the projected completion date of April 30, 2011. The work will run from 9 p.m. Friday night through 5 a.m. Monday each weekend.

Volunteers Work to Improve Home of Fallen Officer's Widow

AUSTELL, Ga. - Volunteers and crews from The Home Depot are pitching into to help improve the home a fallen police officer's widow.

Crews gathered at the home of Faith Norman Thursday. They began work on the home's exterior and interior. The crews were working to remove handicap accessible features of the home that were no longer needed.

The handicap features were added after Freddie Norman was hit head-on by a drunk teen driver in 1989. He was in his patrol car at the time of the wreck, responding to an emergency.

The wreck left Norman a quadriplegic. He died in February 2009 as a result of his injuries.

Many Kids Need 2 Doses of Flu Vaccine

ATLANTA -- While most people will need only one flu shot or spray to guard against H1N1 and the seasonal flu, this year, many children will need two, according to the CDC.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends two doses of 2010-11 flu vaccine for children 6 months through 8 years of age unless they received at least one dose of 2009 H1N1 vaccine last flu season and at least one dose of seasonal vaccine prior to the 2009-2010 flu season or two doses of seasonal flu vaccine last flu season.

The first dose "primes" the immune system, while the second dose provides immune protection, according to the CDC. The second dose should be given 28 or more days after the first dose.
