Cobra Starship to perform at Six Flags

AUSTELL, Ga. -- Six Flags Over Georgia will welcome one of the hottest bands in the world next weekend.

Cobra Starship is scheduled to perform at the park on Saturday, July 14 as part of the Clearasil Summer Concert Series.

The group, whose most recent album, Night Shades, was released last August, mixes pop, rock, synthetic and hip-hop styles into a musical experience that always turns ordinary venues into the ultimate dance party. Cobra Starship has reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Top 100 with the hit "You Make Me Feel" and has performed at the People's Choice Awards, MTV Music Video Award and the 2012 Miss USA Competition.

The concert will begin at 9 p.m. at the Southern Star Amphitheater and is free with park admission. Season pass holders will be let in first to get the best seats in the house.

'B at the Movies' this summer

'B at the Movies' this summer

ATLANTA -- Looking for some free family fun this summer?

ALDI and radio station B98.5 will present the "B at the Movies" outdoor movie series at several locations throughout metro Atlanta all summer long.

Everyone is invited to bring their blankets and chairs to the participating parks and watch the family-friendly movies on giant inflatable screens. Movies begin at dusk, but come out early for activities and giveaways.

Spice Market Announces “Artful Thursdays” and “Après Art” Packages

Spice Market, located inside the W Atlanta-Midtown, is rolling out two new promotions with the High Museum of Art in Midtown beginning the week of April 16 in order to encourage guests to support the arts and to offer a convenient and free parking option for museum-goers.

The restaurant’s Artful Thursdays will take place every Thursday evening beginning at 5 p.m. and includes the following:

·         Complimentary valet at the W Atlanta-Midtown (guests most present their High Museum ticket and their Spice Market receipt upon leaving to receive valet services free of charge)

·         Half-priced tickets to the High Museum of Art, which can be purchased at the Museum. The Museum is open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

KENNESAW, Ga. -- The nominees for the 2012 Georgia Author of the Year Awards have been announced.

More than 100 authors have been nominated in 12 categories, including Short Stories, which is a new addition in 2012.

Nine local writers will face off to take home the top prize in the Children's Book category:

A native of Michigan, Gordon has made it her mission to channel positive messages through her picture books. Her website says that she is certified to teach special education and enjoys watching geese in her spare time.

Open auditions to entertain in Cobb County's upcoming MLK celebration

Residents interested in being a part of Cobb's 26th anniversary celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will have the opportunity to audition. Auditions will be held 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 5, and 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, at Jennie T. Anderson Theatre, Cobb Civic Center, 548 S. Marietta Parkway, Marietta. The celebration will be held 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 16, at the Cobb Civic Center. The theme will be "Keeping the Dream Alive: Continuing the Journey," and the event is free and open to the public. It will include the annual presentation of the “Living the Dream” award to a community member who demonstrates the ideals King exemplified.
