New senior center opens in Austell

AUSTELL, Ga. -- Cobb County officials have cut the ribbon on the new and improved Austell Senior Center.

The original senior center was destroyed during the devastating 2009 floods that swept through west Cobb and other parts of metro Atlanta. Officials decided to move the new center to Clarkdale Park to decrease the risk of it being flooded again.

According to Cobb County Communications:

The new 5,500 square [foot] facility garnered Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification from the U.S. Green Building Council due to many energy saving components in the design. Highlights include: a high efficiency HVAC system, high efficiency light fixtures and a 46 percent reduction in electrical costs and 28 percent reduction in water usage to comparable buildings.
