16-year-old arrested for raping student at South Cobb H.S.

AUSTELL, Ga. -- A 16-year-old student at South Cobb High School has been arrested and charged with raping another student.

Police said that though the suspect is only 16, he is being identified because they are charging him as an adult. Joshua Ingram has been charged with rape in the case.

Cobb County spokesman Dana Pierce said the alleged rape occurred on school property Thursday morning, March 23 between 8:08 and 8:22.

The warrant says Ingram opened a door for the victim.

"The said accused waited or the victim, who is under the age of 16, in one of South Cobb High School's stairways," the warrant said.

According to the warrant, when Ingram started to molest the girl, she tried to get away.

"The victim started to walk away, and the said accused picked up the victim by the groin, carried her to one of the corners, and used his height to intimidate her and to keep her in the corner," the warrant says.

Even though the incident happened more than a week ago, some students were just learning about the alleged rape.

"They didn't let us know anything about it," one student said. "Typically, stuff doesn't really happen her, so, I've never really gotten much information from the school about anything."

Ingram is also charged with two counts of child molestation and one count of false imprisonment.

A warrant was issued March 30, and the suspect is currently in the Cobb County jail.

11Alive reached out to the Cobb County School District for additional information. Spokesman Jennifer Gates released this statement:

The district is aware of an investigation into an alleged rape at South Cobb High School. A suspect has been arrested. The matter is in the hands of Cobb County Police.
