Chattahoochee Tech job fair open to the public

ACWORTH, Ga. -- Chattahoochee Technical College will hold a large job fair for students and the community later this month.

The event will be held Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school's North Metro Campus in Acworth.

More than 60 employers are scheduled to attend, according to CTC Career Services Coordinator Lucylle Shelton. Participating companies include Aaron's, Inc.; American Family Insurance; CarMax; CNN; Kaiser Permanente; and MARTA.

"Employers are looking for applicants with up-to-date skills who can talk about their skills and are confident about what they have to offer," said CTC Career Services Specialist Annette Davis. "There is a big demand for applicants with hands-on experience who are educated in their field. Those are the types of students we have at Chattahoochee Technical College."

Job fair attendees are asked to dress professionally and bring plenty of copies of their résumés.

County to host document shredding, shoe collection

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Cobb County will host a document shredding event for residents this weekend.

The free event will allow Cobb citizens to safety dispose of sensitive documents.

Keep Cobb Beautiful officials will also collect gently-worn shoes at the event. The shoes will be distributed to county residents in need.

The shredding day and shoe collection will be Saturday, Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at multiple locations:

  • Marietta Power (591 North Marietta Parkway)
  • Piedmont Church (570 Piedmont Road, Marietta)
  • Powder Springs City Hall (4484 Marietta Street)
  • Wolfe Adult Recreation Center (884 Church Street, Smyrna)

Cobb County job fair returns next week

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Cobb County's annual large job fair will be held next Wednesday, Sept. 11 at the Cobb Civic Center in Marietta.

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature a number of employers, service organizations and colleges, including AT&T, Staples, WellStar Health Services and the FBI.

The Cobb Civic Center is located at 548 South Marietta Parkway.

PetSmart to host National Adoption Weekend

(WXIA) -- PetSmart Charities is planning a major adoption event at stores nationwide.

National Adoption Weekend will be Sept. 13-15. Thousands of dogs and cats will be available for PetSmart customers to take home.

Adoption representatives will also be on hand to answer questions about caring for a new pet.

PetSmart Charities will give $35 to grants to participating local adoption partners for every pet that finds a new home during National Adoption Weekend.

"We are proud to partner with PetSmart Charities to find lifelong loving homes for thousands of pets this National Adoption Weekend," PetSmart CEO David Lenhardt said.

Six Flags to say goodbye to Southern Star Amphitheatre

AUSTELL, Ga. -- A Six Flags Over Georgia icon will host its final production this weekend.

The Southern Star Amphitheatre has been part of the Cobb County theme park for decades. It will reportedly be torn down to make room for more attractions.

Six Flags said on its Facebook page that the amphitheater will hold Six Flags Celebration, a day-long Christian concert, this Saturday, Aug. 17. Six Flags Celebration features an impressive lineup of top contemporary Christian artists, including Casting Crowns, Jeremy Camp and Hawk Nelson.

IndepenDance canceled until further notice

POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. -- The Paulding County Board of Commissioners has canceled this weekend's IndepenDance at the Polebarn.

The event was supposed to take place Saturday, July 6 at Taylor Park Farm in Powder Springs.

With rain in the forecast, the commissioners have decided to postpone the event, as it includes a fireworks show. A new date has not yet been set.

AUSTELL, Ga. -- A Cobb County Chick-fil-A will host a fundraiser for Tripp Halstead's family this week.

East West Church in Marietta has teamed up with the restaurant on Austell Road to raise money for the toddler's medical bills.

On Thursday, June 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., 20 percent of the Austell Chick-fil-A's proceeds will go to Tripp's family. Customers will also have the option of donating directly; checks should be made payable to the Halstead family.
