School district announces graduation schedule

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Graduation is right around the corner for high school seniors in Cobb County.

The school system has announced the graduation dates, times and venues for its high schools. Family members and friends who can't attend the actual ceremonies can purchase DVDs and, in most cases, watch live Web broadcasts of the events.

Block party to celebrate public safety education

Block party to celebrate public safety education

AUSTELL, Ga. -- The Cobb County Department of Public Safety will hold a public safety education block party next weekend.

The fun will be held Saturday, Apr. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Parkview Atlanta Apartments.

Cobb County Police and Fire personnel will be in attendance, as will 911 operators, animal control officers and members of the Community Emergency Response Team. There will be food, music and plenty of family-friendly fun.

The Parkview Atlanta Apartments complex is located at 360 Six Flags Drive in Austell.

AUSTELL, Ga. -- Austell Public Works will sponsor a citywide cleanup event on Saturday, Apr. 27.

Keep Austell Beautiful Day is part of the Great American Cleanup, which encourages citizens to take care of their communities.

Anyone who is interested in helping out should meet at George E. Beavers Park at 10 a.m. on Apr. 27. Lunch will be provided.

Coke partners with Firehouse Subs for national contest

ATLANTA -- Coca-Cola and Firehouse Subs are partnering for a national sweepstakes centered on stock car racing.

Coca-Cola is sponsoring the Coca-Cola Photo Finish sweepstakes at Firehouse Subs locations through Apr. 21.

During the contest, life-size cutouts of participating Coca-Cola Racing Family members will be placed in FIrehouse Subs locations. Firehouse Subs guests can snap a photo with the cutout and submit it to win. Guests can submit photos via text to cocacolaphotofinish.com, or entries can be mailed.

Participating drivers include Joey Logano, representing the Georgia and Gulf region; Greg Biffle, representing the West and Central region; Danica Patrick, representing the Florida region; Denny Hamlin, representing the South region; and Tony Stewart, representing the Mid-Atlantic region.

Six Flags announces new Christian music festival

AUSTELL, Ga. -- Rock the Flags, a brand new Christian musical festival, will debut at Six Flags Over Georgia this year.

The inaugural Rock the Flags will feature some of the hottest names in contemporary Christian music, including Skillet, Kutless, Family Force 5, For King & Country and We As Human.

The music festival will be held Saturday, Apr. 6 at the park's Southern Star Amphitheater. Tickets range in price from $14.99 to $109.99, and many packages come with perks like premium seating, a T-shirt, and a meet and greet with one of the bands.

Cobb Encore Series brings The Association to stage

Marietta, Ga. -- The hit 1960's band The Association will perform during the Encore Series on February 23 at the Cobb Civic Center. 

A spokesperson for Cobb County said the show starts at 8:00 p.m. The Civic Center is located at 548 Marietta Parkway. 

The Association has produced singles including "Windy" and "Along Comes Mary." The group has sold over 80 million albums, as well as earned six gold records and two platinum records. In 1967, the band became the first group to open a rock festival, now known as the historic Monterey Pop Festival.

Quest College Fair coming to west Cobb

Quest College Fair coming to west Cobb

KENNESAW, Ga. -- A college fair created especially for students in west Cobb County will be held later this month.

Nearly 100 colleges and universities are scheduled to participate in this year's Quest College Fair, which will be Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at North Cobb High School.

Several workshop sessions will also be held during the fair, including one for students who are interested in pursuing athletic scholarships, one for those who want to attend military academies and one that teaches students how to obtain financial aid.

North Cobb High School is located at 3400 Old U.S. Highway 41 in Kennesaw.

The Quest College Fair is for students at Allatoona, Harrison, Hillgrove, Kennesaw Mountain, McEachern and North Cobb high schools.
