Roadwork resumes this weekend

(WXIA) -- Metro Atlanta drivers enjoyed a break last weekend when the Georgia Department of Transportation postponed road projects for the July 4 holiday.

But now that the fun is over, the work begins again.

Crews will be on several interstates throughout the metro, working on much-needed improvements. Delays are expected in all areas where roadwork will be performed.

As always, projects are weather permitting. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms could temporarily halt or delay work.

Here is some of this weekend's scheduled roadwork:

Cobb County
* Two right southbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Paces Ferry Road and South Cobb Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for slab replacement and repair.

Cobb/Fulton counties
* Two left eastbound lanes and one left westbound lane of I-285 will be closed between Powers Ferry Road and New Northside Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for sign work.

Douglas County
* Two westbound lanes of I-20 will be closed between Liberty and Post roads from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday for resurfacing; the outside shoulder will be used as a travel lane.

Downtown Atlanta
* Restriping will take place on the Downtown Connector ramps to I-20 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly; the ramps will stay open, but delays are expected.

Fulton County
* Interstate North Parkway will be closed between New Northside and Northside drives from 1 p.m. Friday to 11 a.m. Sunday for crane staging.
* One northbound right lane of Ga. 400 will be closed between Sidney Marcus Boulevard and Glenridge Road from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for underground boring. Lane closures are also expected near Lenox Road overnight Friday for painting on the new MARTA pedestrian bridge.

Gwinnett County
* One northbound right lane of I-85 will be closed between Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Center Way from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Rockdale County
* Two left eastbound lanes of I-20 will be closed between Salem Road and Highway 278 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for resurfacing.

Weekend events that may impact traffic include Friday's Goo Goo Dolls, Daughtery and Plain White T's concert at Chastain Park Amphitheater; Saturday's Atlanta Street Food Festival at Piedmont Park; and Saturday's Tim McGraw and Kip Moore concert at Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood.
