Powder Springs opens new police station

POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. -- Powder Springs has opened a new police station in a renovated building about a mile from the old station.

More than 100 people turned out for a grand opening ceremony at the new station off Richard D. Sailors Parkway.

Authorities say the 20,100 square foot space includes a training classroom, rooms for future shooting and driving simulator equipment, and offices to house eight detectives, three majors, 50 patrol officers and 16 staff employees.

The city purchased the building, which once housed an Ace Hardware store, for $1.2 million.
