POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. -- A Hillgrove High School student-athlete has been named the 2011-2012 Gatorade Georgia Football Player of the Year.

Senior Kenyan Drake joins a fantastic legacy of talented players, including last year's winner, Brian Randolph of Marietta's Kell High School.

The 6-foot-1-inch running back led the Hillgrove Hawks to the second round of the Class 5A postseason in 2011. Drake is also a baseball star with a 3.23 weighted GPA, and serves as a volunteer coach for local youth camps.

"Drake is a great young man with tremendous work ethic and drive," said Shane Queen, head coach of Hillgrove rival North Cobb High. "He is one of the best players that I have coached against in 18 years. He is a man of great character and does well in the classroom. If there is a better young man, player or role model, I would love to see him."

Drake has verbally committed to playing football for the University of Alabama next fall.
