TODAY: Cobb open house on regional transportation projects

MARIETTA, Ga. -- The Cobb County Board of Commissioners will host a public information open house to present the draft of a transportation projects list to submit for potential inclusion in the Regional Sales Tax vote next summer.

The open house will be on Monday, Mar. 21 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the BOC Room of the Cobb County Government (Second Floor, 100 Cherokee Street, Marietta, 30090).

There will be no formal presentation of the proposed projects.

MARIETTA, GA -- It's not too early to start thinking about summer camp.

The Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department will host the Cobb Summer Camp Expo 2011 on Tuesday, Mar. 8.

The event will be at the Cobb Civic Center (548 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, 30060) from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Cobb Summer Camp Expo is a one-stop shop for summer camp programs from all over the county. Representatives from day camps, art camps, church camps, overnight camps, performing arts camps, sports camps and much more will be on hand to help residents find the perfect fit for their children.

Admission to the expo is free.

Great American Cleanup, Cobb Clean Sweep Coming in March

COBB COUNTY, GA -- Cobb County residents and students have a chance to be part of the biggest beautification and litter prevention effort ever.

The Great American Cleanup, which begins Tuesday, Mar. 1, is an annual nationwide community improvement campaign started in 1999 by Keep America Beautiful.

In 2009, Great American Cleanup volunteers donated more than 5.2 million hours of their time to clean, beautify and improve 32,000 communities in all 50 states and beyond.

Cobb County will kick off its leg of the Great American Cleanup with Clean Sweep Cobb, a series of service projects to be performed across the county on Saturday, Mar. 5.

ARC Awards $100,000 to Milton, Cobb County

ATLANTA -- Through its award-winning Livable Centers Initiative (LCI), the Atlanta Regional Commission is giving grant money to several local governments.

These grants will help the communities create new quality growth plans in certain locations or fund the implementation of a previously-awarded LCI study to enhance the livability of the areas.

The recipients for grants to fund new LCI study areas are the City of Milton and Cobb County, at $100,000 each.

"LCI has helped communities across Metro Atlanta re-tool and redesign over the years, creating more places that attract residents and businesses alike," said Tad Leithead, ARC chairman.

'Fun in the Park' Photo Contest Winners Announced

COBB COUNTY, GA -- The "Fun in the Park" Photo Contest, hosted by the Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, is over for 2010.

This year marked the largest turn-out in the contest's history. Over 280 photos, all of which were taken in Cobb parks, were submitted in the three categories.

With so many great photos submitted, the panel of eight judges had a difficult time selecting the winners.

POWDER SPRINGS, GA -- A new Christmas event will be held at the Ward Recreation Center (Lost Mountain Park, 4845 Dallas Highway, Powder Springs, 30127) on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 10:00 a.m.
