ATLANTA -- An Austell woman will now be very wealthy for the rest of her life.

Vilmer Meyer won $250,000 a year for 30 years after taking home the top prize in the Georgia Lottery's Decades of Dollars instant game.

She was awarded an oversized check Tuesday at L & S Food Mart on South Cobb Drive in Smyrna, where she bought the lucky ticket.

The 61-year-old winner said she usually watches the televised drawing, but fell asleep before seeing her winning numbers. She learned the good news by calling the Player Information Hot Line the next day.

"I hung up, called and called back a third time," she said. "It is a gift. I'm grateful, seriously."

Meyer worked for 36 years as a surgery scheduler at a local hospital. She has two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She enjoys playing the lottery because buying a ticket means "making a donation to HOPE. A lot of people don't realize how good it is. I enjoy [the lottery] and the excitement of it."

Meyer plans to use her first check to upgrade her home and make a charitable donation.

Decades of Dollars drawings are held at 11 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. Tickets are $2 per play.
