Line dancing teams to compete at Six Flags

AUSTELL, Ga. -- If country line dancing is your thing, you won't want to miss the Texas Roadhouse line dancing contest at Six Flags.

The competition will be Tuesday, July 26 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Nine teams are scheduled to compete: four from Georgia (Douglasville, Hiram, Marietta and Snellville), three from Alabama and two from Mississippi.

Teams are made up of eight to 10 dancers dressed in Texas Roadhouse attire. They will each dance to three songs, and a panel of judges will evaluate them on creativity, energy, spirit and synchronicity.

The winning team will go on to represent the region in a national line dancing competition.

Tickets are $40 each, which includes a ticket to Six Flags, parking pass, food voucher and admission to the line dancing contest.

POWDER SPRINGS: World Cup star now runs horse farm

POWDER SPRINGS: World Cup star now runs horse farm

POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. -- Michelle Akers doesn't think much about soccer anymore... except when the World Cup is on.

"The Brazil game, oh my gosh," she said. "I barely could keep myself from swearing ... They were falling down and rolling around, and I was like, 'I'll give you something to cry about.'"

Akers is widely regarded as one of the greatest women's soccer players of all-time. In fact, in an article in Sports Illustrated last month, her former coach Tony DiCicco called Akers "the best player who ever played."

As this World Cup takes shape, Akers is still into it. But after every game, she is right back on the job.

The job, in this case, is running a horse farm in Powder Springs. Akers spends her time rescuing and nursing horses as well as tending to goats, chickens, and her three dogs.

Hudson also enjoyed such rides as Goliath, Superman: Ultimate Flight and Acrophobia.

Her visit came shortly after Six Flags celebrated Dare Devil Dive's 100,000th rider -- 11-year-old Chase from Lakeland, Fla.

Chase, 11, of Lakeland, Fla. became the 100,000th person to experience the spine-tingling 95-degree drop that has already made Dare Devil Dive infamous.

To celebrate this milestone, Six Flags awarded Chase and his family with a free VIP tour for the remainder of their visit, including front-of-the-line access, a personal escort and unlimited food and drinks.

"We are extremely happy to announce this great milestone," said Melinda Ashcraft, Six Flags Over Georgia president.
