Powder Springs police cars wearing out fast | Transportation
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. -- Powder Springs Police Chief Charlie Sewell says his officers are placing themselves in danger whenever they drive their worn out patrol cars.
The Marietta Daily Journal reports that the city's fleet of police cars are well above the recommended mileage limit of 60,000 miles. He said the average mileage of the 14 cars is 92,000 miles, with some having as many as 150,000 miles.
The police chief recently presented a plan to the Powder Springs City Council that would involve the city leasing its patrol cars instead of buying expensive new ones on a regular basis.
Councilwoman Rosalyn Neal says the council hasn't made a decision on whether to replace the patrol cars. The city is preparing its budget for fiscal year 2013, which begins July 1.
